Sometimes, a patient requires intravenous (IV) infusions as maintenance for specific conditions or disease management. Families of such patients often struggle between hospitalisation for simple IV fluid therapy, the inconvenience of undergoing the therapy in non-standard clinics, and looking for nursing care that can administer therapy at home, often at much higher costs.

One of the key functions of our Outpatient Clinic is to offer Outpatient Intravenous Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) to patients with long-term conditions who require intravenous fluid treatment but are otherwise well enough not to be in hospital. These patients, who are clinically stable,may be discharged from hospital early to an OPAT service or may avoid hospital admission altogether.

OPAT requires a multidisciplinary team capable of delivering the treatment and all the necessary support services, as at the Capstone Clinic. Our experienced team of professionals includes doctors and nurses who ensure a seamless experience covering medical care and antibiotic therapy for patients. OPAT saves the patient from significant expenses related to hospitalisation and ensures completion of treatment.
