With over 22 years of experience in the field of Paediatric dentistry and Orthodontics, Dr. Aruna firmly believes in creating awareness among young children and parents about oral health. She has established a good name and a huge fan following in Chennai among her young and old patients, due to her genuine caring approach and the child-friendly “tooth fairy” persona.

Having had her own clinic for many years, when the opportunity arrived to join The Capstone Clinic, she couldn’t resist, as the idea behind its inception greatly appealed to her. Working with a team of experienced doctors of different specialities to provide a variety of dental and other healthcare services, with families as a target audience, allows Dr Aruna to expand her clientele and help in dispeling that age-old fear of being in a dentist’s chair by providing an ambience of colour, comfort and care.

Her patients’ testimonials bear credence to the fact that children enjoy their visit to the clinic and insist on regular visits, which goes a long way in building early discipline related to oral/dental health. The services offered include minor surgical procedures (both in orthodontics and Paediatric dentistry) that are done under sedation with anesthetist supervision, in the clinic setting itself. Full mouth rehabilitation is carried out under general anesthesia in the day care setting. Dr Aruna’s ‘never say die’ attitude and caring manner have won her a lot of fans, young and old. Her passion for the science and methodology of dentistry continues to push her to scale new heights. Challenging the norm and new ideologies are what this cheerful doctor thrives on and she derives inspiration from her young patients with whom she has an almost instant and enviable rapport! Treating children with special needs is something very close to her heart. She hopes to take the concepts of fear-free Paediatric dentistry and orthodontics to more and more children across the country in a bid to create a generation of bright smiles and healthy adults.

Dr. Aruna Mohan completed her undergraduate training in dentistry at the prestigious Madras Dental College, University Of Madras. A school topper, the trend continued through her college days with commendable achievements all through. Bagging the highest marks in the University in basic sciences (General Microbiology, General Pharmacology, and General Pathology) and General Medicine led her to receive Honor certificates and prizes. On the dental side, she scored top marks in many subjects including Conservative Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Orthodontics in her final year bagging among other prizes, the coveted Colgate Gold Medal and the Best Outgoing Going Student Award from the University of Madras. She was also awarded the “Student Plaque Award” from the International College of Dentists (India Section) for her outstanding achievements during her years of study at the Madras Dental College. In her pursuit of academic excellence and a desire to specialize in the field of Paediatric Dentistry, she chose to do a residency program in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, Connecticut, USA with a full scholarship. She then completed her Master’s in Paediatric Dentistry with her thesis based on a multi-factorial model for early childhood decay under the guidance of the renowned Dr. Norman Tinanoff. Following a clinical/research fellowship at the University of Connecticut, USA, she worked at the Royal London Hospital, London, UK in the department of Child Dental Health.

After her return to India, Dr Aruna was actively involved in academics and taught at Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Research Institute, Chennai. This was followed by a teaching stint at the Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Chennai, where she was a Professor in the department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. In 2009, she established the Department of Paediatric Dentistry at the Tagore Dental College, Chennai, where she was Professor and Head of the Department before she decided to move into full time clinical practice. She completed a course in Orthodontics in the USA under the aegis of Progressive Orthodontics, USA and was mentored by Dr. Donald McGann, well known world-over for his work in ‘customized orthodontics’ (IP appliance).

She offers internships at her clinic to aspiring dentists with an interest in Paediatrics and conducts field trips for school children in order to increase their understanding of dental science.
